Honda has announced its entry into the sport side-by-side field with the Talon 1000X, a new member of its powersports family revealed at the Los Angeles auto show.
With the Talon 1000X, Honda says it has married the performance of its CR and CRF dirtbikes with a multipurpose side-by-side to offer “a new level of off-road excitement, precision and quality” to the sport side-by-side segment.
Power comes from a parallel twin 999-cc engine with Honda’s unicam head design, which uses a single camshaft to operate each cylinder’s four valves.
The twin-cylinder engine is bolted to a six-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to power a four-wheel drive system with brake-based traction control that can direct power to an individual wheel.
The Talon 1000X also features electronic brake force distribution and hill start assist.
A pair of bucket seats feature car-like adjustments and sport a pass-through for a four-point harness. There’s also an adjustable steering column, and the passenger assist handle can be adjusted into “virtually” any position.
Honda has confirmed the Talon 1000X will come to Canada in 2019, but has neither announced a date nor pricing.
