HP War Heats Up as Can-Am Announces New 195 HP Maverick X3 Turbo RR

Can-Am remains the horsepower king, at least for now, as they have announced their 2020 model year line-up with the introduction of the Maverick X3 Turbo RR. Can-Am’s RR package will boast an industry leading 195 HP, once again raising the game in terms of engine power and performance. Can-Am’s current 172 HP Maverick X3 Turbo R and 120 HP X3 Turbo base model will continue life into the 2020 model year as well.

The Maverick X3 will get a fully digital 7.6″ display in the upcoming models. We like the fact that the display is an orange glow and wish some other manufacturers would take a cue from Can-Am and follow this. The blue light from other UTVs diminishes night vision. Gauge placement and important information is available at a quick glance, thus allowing the driver to concentrate on what’s ahead.

The biggest news of course is the big increase in power. It’s not just a simple tuning map that is unleashing the bigger numbers. Can-Am has beefed up engine internals, a larger turbocharger, brought in a more efficient air design and increased cooling. The CVT system has been changed as well to be able to handle more horsepower.

The Maverick X3 Turbo RR will be available with multiple trim and feature packages in the new models. The X3 X DS Turbo RR two seater and Max X3 X DS four seaters will function as the lowest entry point for getting into the new 195 HP UTV. The DS models feature a more narrow 64″ width for those that prefer to ride on tighter trails. Expect 13-14 inches of ground clearance with the models’ 30″ tires on 14″ wheels.

For those wanting the additional stability that a wider stance offers, Ca-Am will be offering the X3 X RS Turbo RR, the X3 X RC Turbo RR and the X3 X MR Turbo RR. All those models will be available as both standard two seater machines and the Max four seater options. If you’re trying to figure out what all those random letters mean, you’re not alone. However, the simple cheat sheet is that MR are more for mud riding, RS is a more race inspired machine and the RC models are geared towards technical rocky terrain. The the standard 32″ tires on 15″ wheels, you will have 16″ of ground clearance from the factory. Whatever your poison, Can-Am has got you covered.

Currently, there is no word on rumored Can-Am Maverick R2-D2 C-3PO E=MC2 model with hyper-drive technology that can make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, but at the rate UTVs are advancing, we’re sure it’s not far off.
