When adding tunes to your UTV, finding a place to mount the head unit can be a problem. Just because you don’t have the room to mount a full size receiver in your SxS doesn’t mean that you have to settle for a low quality cheap marine radio made for boats. The Rockford unit puts significant engineering efforts into a package that is able to produce clear sound, while standing up to the most rigorous riding and adverse conditions. The PMX-2 features a 2.7″ full color thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display, which works well for viewing even in direct sunlight or with polarized sunglasses. TFT displays offer the advantage high contrast, especially when not viewing from severe angles. The display is optically wet bonded to protect against moisture and dust. The PMX-2 allows you to listen to just about any type of digital media that you can think of. You can stream Pandora, directly connect your iPhone or Android, connect via Bluetooth or even read from a USB flash drive. There is also a built in FM/AM tuner. The Bluetooth connect is super reliable and we never experienced any drop-outs with the connection. The head unit control of Pandora is super convenient and it’s nice not having to mess with your phone to play music. Even navigation of music stored on a USB device is easy, with unit allowing you to browse through files and folders easily. Since the device uses a rear USB input, we purchased male to female extension cable to mount on our dash that worked great for less than $10. The USB input can also be used to charge and power devices as well.
The head unit boasts plenty of power with it’s built in amplifier than produces 25Wx4 RMS and 50Wx4 peak. You can tune your music with several built in pre-set equalization settings or take full control with its seven band equalizer. Also included are standard controls such as front and rear fader, along with left and right balance controls. Rockford Fosgate really takes things to the next level with built in sub controls, built in crossover for the outputs and gain settings for each audio source. The built in sub controls build extra value into the system, saving you money in not having to purchase an external controller for the various subwoofer systems available on the market. The PMX-2 also utilizers Rockford’s exclusive Punch EQ, which allows even more gain controls to really give your music a boost.
The EEPROM memory system that Rockford uses keeps all your settings stored if you have to disconnect the battery from the system. Also, another nice feature that the PMX-2 utilizes is a low voltage warning, which will notify you if you are just hanging around with friends listening to music. You will be warned plenty ahead of time so that you can still start your UTV and recharge your battery.
The PMX-2 is compact enough to be custom mounted to just about any UTV on the market and the included trim bezel will give a factory look. Rockford Fosgate also makes direct fit bolt on kits for a variety of UTVs. Most of the direct fit factory location mounting solutions offer options for adding additional switches to your dash as well.
